Privacy policy
What we collect when you read this site or write to us, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version
SoftwarePivot has no user accounts, no comment section, no newsletter and no contact form. We don't run advertising trackers, analytics tools or social media plugins, and our pages don't load anything from other companies' servers: the fonts, styles and illustrations are all served from our own. That keeps the list of what we collect short:
- the technical logs our web server keeps for every visit, which include your IP address;
- one small cookie that remembers whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies;
- the emails you choose to send us.
We don't sell personal data, we don't build profiles, and we don't make automated decisions about anyone. The rest of this page gives the detail that the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) requires.
Who is responsible for your data
The data controller is CTAWeb Srls, Via Castelluccio 3, 81030 Falciano del Massico (CE), Italy, VAT number IT04201890615, REA CE-307422. You can reach us about anything on this page at info@softwarepivot.com. We haven't appointed a data protection officer, as the law doesn't require one for an activity of this size; privacy questions go to the same address.
What we collect and why
| Data | Why we use it | Legal basis | How long we keep it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Server logs: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the response code and size, the page you came from (referrer) and your browser's user agent string | To deliver pages, keep the site secure, block abusive traffic and fix errors | Our legitimate interest in running a secure, working website (GDPR Art. 6(1)(f)) | Logs rotate weekly and are deleted automatically after at most six weeks. A specific entry is kept longer only if it is needed to investigate an attack or a legal claim. |
| Consent cookie: whether you accepted or rejected optional cookies | To remember your choice so the banner doesn't reappear on every page | Compliance with the cookie consent rules (GDPR Art. 6(1)(c)); the cookie is strictly necessary and needs no consent | 180 days, or until you clear it. See the cookie policy. |
| Emails you send us: your address, your name if you include it, the message and any attachments | To read and answer your message, fix an error you report, or handle a privacy request | Our legitimate interest in answering the people who write to us (Art. 6(1)(f)); for privacy requests, our legal obligation to handle them (Art. 6(1)(c)) | As long as the conversation needs, then deleted within 24 months of our last exchange, unless we must keep a message to comply with the law or defend a legal claim |
We don't ask for special categories of data (health, beliefs and so on), and we ask you not to send them.
What we don't collect
There is no analytics or audience-measurement tool on SoftwarePivot today, even for readers who click "Accept" on the cookie banner. The banner offers that choice so that, if we ever add such a tool, it would only run for readers who agreed. Before that happens we will update this policy and the cookie policy with the tool's name, what it collects, who receives the data and for how long, and we will ask for your consent again.
The same applies to anything else that would share data with a third party, such as embedded videos or advertising. None of it is on the site now.
Affiliate links and other websites
Some of our links lead to software vendors, sometimes through an affiliate network that records the click so the vendor can pay us a commission. The affiliate disclosure explains how that works.
When you follow one of these links you leave SoftwarePivot. The vendor, and the affiliate network if there is one, are separate companies acting as independent controllers: they may set their own cookies and collect data about you under their own privacy policies, which we don't control and which you should read before buying or signing up. The affiliate networks we work with or may work with include MaxBounty, based in Canada, and Perform[cb], based in the United States. Each processes click and conversion data under its own privacy policy: see the MaxBounty privacy policy and the Perform[cb] privacy policy. If we join another network, we'll add it here.
From affiliate networks we receive reports of clicks, sign-ups and commissions, which may include a reference code for the click, the date and the country. We don't receive your name, email address or payment details, and we don't try to link those reports back to individual readers.
Who else handles the data
Our website and our mailbox are hosted by Hetzner Online GmbH on servers in Germany. Hetzner stores the data on our behalf and acts as our processor under Article 28 GDPR; it doesn't use the data for its own purposes. Beyond that, we share personal data only when the law requires it, for example in response to a lawful request from a public authority.
We don't transfer your data outside the European Economic Area ourselves. Data that an affiliate network or vendor collects after you follow a link is handled by them, possibly outside the EEA, under their own policies and safeguards. If you write to us from an email service based elsewhere, that service handles your message under its own terms before it reaches us.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us at any time to:
- confirm whether we hold data about you and give you a copy (access);
- correct data that is wrong (rectification);
- delete it (erasure), where there's no overriding reason to keep it;
- limit how we use it while a question is being settled (restriction);
- give you the data you provided in a common machine-readable format (portability);
- stop using it on the basis of our legitimate interest (objection).
Where we rely on your consent, you can withdraw it whenever you like, and withdrawing is as easy as giving it. To exercise any of these rights, email info@softwarepivot.com with "Privacy request" in the subject. We reply within one month. To make sure we're giving data to the right person we may need to confirm your identity, usually by replying to the address you wrote from. Server logs record IP addresses, not names, so for log data we'll need the IP address and the approximate date and time of your visit.
You also have the right to complain to a supervisory authority. In Italy that is the Garante per la protezione dei dati personali (garanteprivacy.it); you can also contact the authority in the EU country where you live or work.
Readers outside the EU
We apply this policy to every reader, wherever they are. For readers in the United States: we do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, as those terms are used in California privacy law.
Do Not Track and tracking across sites
Some browsers send a "Do Not Track" or Global Privacy Control signal. Because SoftwarePivot doesn't track readers across websites and doesn't let third parties do so on its pages, there is nothing for those signals to switch off here: every reader gets the same untracked pages. No third party collects information about your activity on our pages over time or across other sites. That changes only after you leave the site through an outbound link.
Children
SoftwarePivot is written for adults and isn't directed at children. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16. If you think a child has sent us personal data, write to us and we'll delete it.
Security
The site is served only over HTTPS. Access to the server, the logs and the mailbox is limited to the people who run the site, and logs are deleted on the schedule above. No system is perfectly secure, but collecting very little is the best protection we know.
Changes to this policy
This version of the policy is effective from September 24, 2026. When we change it we update the date at the top of the page. If a change affects what we collect or why, we'll also say so at the top of this page for at least 30 days, and where the law requires it we'll ask for your consent before the change takes effect.
