About us

Who writes the guides, who runs the site, and the method behind every comparison and verdict.

Who we are

SoftwarePivot is written by the SoftwarePivot Editorial Team, a small group of writers and editors who cover the software people use every day: VPNs, antivirus, password managers, backup tools, note apps and the settings buried in phones and browsers.

We sign as a team, not as individuals. Every guide is drafted, checked and edited by more than one person before it goes live, and the byline reflects that. You won't find invented author profiles or stock-photo portraits here.

The site is owned and operated by CTAWeb Srls, an Italian company based in Falciano del Massico, in the province of Caserta. The full company details are at the bottom of this page.

Why the site exists

Most software choices look small. Then the introductory price doubles at renewal, the free antivirus turns out to bundle a browser toolbar, or the VPN's privacy policy says something rather different from its home page.

Our job is to put the facts that matter in one place, in plain language, before you pay for anything. That includes telling you when the free option, or the tool already built into your operating system, is good enough. It often is.

How we review

We want to be exact about this, because a lot of review sites aren't. We don't run lab tests or benchmarks on our own hardware, and no guide on this site claims otherwise. A SoftwarePivot review is a structured comparison built from sources that anyone can check. This is the process behind every verdict.

  1. Official specs and pricing come first. Features, plan limits and prices are taken from each vendor's own documentation, pricing pages and app store listings, and we note the date we checked them. Where an introductory price differs from the renewal price, we show both.
  2. We read the policies in full. Privacy policies, terms of service, refund rules and, where a vendor publishes one, an independent audit report. A long feature list doesn't make up for a policy that lets the vendor sell your data.
  3. We look for independent evidence. Results published by independent testing labs, security researchers, recognized publications and public bodies such as national cybersecurity agencies. When a guide quotes a specific figure, it links to the page it came from.
  4. We weigh user reviews we can verify. Store reviews and forum reports count when they are recent, specific and consistent across several places. Sudden bursts of five-star reviews and reviews that were clearly paid for count for nothing.
  5. We give a plain verdict. Every guide ends with a clear recommendation and the specific reasons for it, drawn from the evidence above, so you can judge the reasoning yourself.
  6. We keep guides current. Prices, plans and policies change. Every guide shows the date it was last updated, and we revise it when something material changes. If you spot something out of date before we do, tell us.

What we don't do

  • We don't accept payment for a review, a better verdict or a place in a list.
  • Vendors don't see a guide before it's published and can't ask us to change a verdict. If a vendor points out a factual error, we check it against a source and correct it if they're right.
  • We don't accept free licenses or gifts in exchange for coverage.
  • We don't write fake reviews or testimonials, and we don't invent quotes from users.
  • We don't promise results. Software behaves differently on different devices and networks, and we say so where it matters.

How the site is paid for

SoftwarePivot is free to read and doesn't show display ads. It's funded by affiliate commissions: when you follow some of our links to a vendor and buy or sign up, the vendor or an affiliate network may pay us. Some pages may also promote a specific partner's offer, and those pages are labeled. None of this changes the price you pay or the verdict we give. The details are in our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If a guide gets something wrong, we fix it, update the date and, when the mistake changed a recommendation, add a note saying what changed. Write to info@softwarepivot.com with the page and the correction, and a source if you have one.
